First off: GONG XI FATT CHAI to everyone who’s celebrating it. Including the angpao hunters (aren’t we all one, those in the know? :p)
For those who don’t know, angpao is money given in red packets during the Lunar New Year, supposedly to ward off bad luck. Furthermore, there is money in those packets, and lemme tell you, a lot of kids can make a killing in those red packets for a whole year, especially if they have no other income. It’s one of the events that makes a kid happy for CNY, though as you grow older, a lot of people begin to appreciate the most important part of New Year.
The reunion dinner.
Every CNY eve, people would leave for their hometowns in a stampede, ala the Hari Raya Balik Kampung Rush (aka the Malay Raya Hometown Rush). The city would be half-deserted, as they run home for the CNY Reunion dinner. It’s the last dinner of the year, and the whole family gathers together for it. Young, old, from near and far, all would make the effort to return home, though there are many who often can’t.
It’s an excuse, in a way, to pig out, but at the same time, it’s also a time to gather together, learn who was doing what, and having a good time. Only open to immediate family members only, which makes it smaller and more… intimate.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to see if we still have some pineapple tarts.
GONG XI FATT CHAI!

I love talking to my friends from the same course as me. Yes, I’m talking about the Mass Comm gang, particularly those who are my seniors. You see. when we get together, sooner or later religion and/or politics comes up (since the seniors that I’m close to are both into religion in a BIG way, and there is no way to talk about religion without talking about politics in Malaysia) and in many ways, we are both similar and dissimilar in our thoughts.
The Bible, IMHO, was not written by either just God, or just humans. The divine inspiration DID come from God (obviously) but remember, it has been filtered through the writer’s. What comes out is the perspective of the writer of what God gave him. He’s writing it for his time and situation. It’s not always the literal lettering to be taken into action.
Then, not to forget, there’s also the wording. The KJV has always been a bit suspect, IMHO. Sages will remember a time several months ago when Rosie asked us about the Bible. There was one line that stated: Suffer not a witch to live. Why a witch, when the original wording was poisoner?
That’s the reason why I don’t read the New Testament beyond the Gospels and Acts. For some reason, I do not trust Paul. And the King James Version. It seems that Christianity, which was supposed to be the Great Equalizer, has become something else entirely. The rules were there to protect both sexes, but Paul seems to have made it so that the rules favour the men. Blergh.

The reason why there’s a brain drain in Malaysia is not because those leaving are unpatriotic. They’re TOO patriotic and cannot bear to see the state that she’s in. I agree with them.

And yes, I am at a loss on what to write.

We figured out what was wrong with the router. Someone had been playing with it, setting it to their own settings. When we got it, we thought it was new, but it wasn’t.
A press and hold on the factory settings button did the trick. It now works. ^_~

It was a day full of screaming. Pictures will follow most likely Monday. On a side note, I did also manage to buy a new CNY blouse. ^_^
