I switched on Verita this morning trying to get some mail before I headed off to get the offer letter from the company I’m due to work for.
Verita refused to start up, and kept hitting me with this “Windows was not able to start, please choose option” kind of screen. I got pissed rather than freaking out, and so I borrowed my bro’s comp.
I came home, decided to see if the WinXP cd would allow me to restore my comp, and received a very scary notification:
Your harddisk is either damaged, faulty, unformatted, or not formatted properly. You need to reformat it.
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
So I sent Verita back. Hopefully I’ll get her back tomorrow evening. Cross your fingers.

Like accounting, doctoring (immensely important!), engineering- any job, IMHO that involves a very high degree of precision, technical know-how, and a logical mind. However, does everyone have to be pressured to score As, even if they don’t want to?
This is what prompted this entry. Now go read it before you come back. BTW, stop by EducateDeviate on your way back. That’s the author’s website on alternative education. ^_^
~
Back? Good. Primary and Secondary Education in Malaysia has been on a slide for a long time, regardless of what the government says. The emphasis and switch on scoring for Academics and forgetting everything else in the race for the moolah (or so some parents tell their children) has been nothing but detrimental to our society.
I told this to my mom (about Tiara’s article, I mean), who then proceeded to say that “I don’t force you to get all As,” which started my eyeroll (mom has got incredibly good selective memory coupled with excellent “Believe me” faces) and then said that this was due to the fact that people are having less children, sometimes only one in the family, so they compare their kids to other people’s kids to give themselves a pat on the back for raising fine children. This would be preposterous and funny if it weren’t for the fact that this happened to me.
So I made myself promise that if I had kids, I’d rather her/him (yes, I’ll be selfish and admit I want a daughter) I’d make her get A for being a kind person. I’d rather give her a treat for helping an elderly person cross the road than for a perfect test paper (On a side note, I once nearly got a perfect test paper in Std. 4). I would rather my daughter know right from wrong than for her to recite the values to me without understanding.
Of course, she’s got a right in return, to expect her mother to listen to her, to support her dreams no matter how ridiculous, to let her take and drop her extra classes (such as ballet and the like), to go for self-defence and swimming lessons (now I think that one I’ll make her go, just to be safe) and to be respected as an individual.
*Looks back on post*
Oh kay… sorry for disgressing, but please keep those links in mind. Or at least… READ THEM. ^_^

Really… people are getting offended by a tabloid that makes fun of the situation, not the person. Really people! The NST has done a rather good job, I would say. Idiotic Government.

Really. It’s simple humour people! LIGHTEN UP!

Because I am lazy, here be the second part of the outing, written by Jinja. That reminds me… I need to inform the CF people that we have someone who’s interested in working with us… because we all love comics. ^_^

Things have taken a turn for the worse with the death of my grandfather last year. For those who know, there has been this sort of “simmering” feud for the longest time ever. This feud escalated with the death of my grandfather last year, with more relatives showing what they thought of each other and manipulating everyone for their own ends. The grandkids were the ones caught in the middle.
There was the sale of granma’s house, which everyone is refusing to take credit for, but according to one source was prompted by one uncle, supported by my dad, later joined in by another uncle, who couldn’t wait to kick my late aunt’s family out. Once they were out, he changed his mind and insisted that the house be retained. His excuse was the house should be retained for family business.
Anyone familiar with him would know immediately that he wanted the house for himself. He’s currently living in a rented house. When my grandfather was alive he used to ask him for money. Now that he’s gone, we fear that he’s asking my grandmother for money, and my aunt says that it’s no the case. I disagree.
In any case, I’m going to sever all ties with them when I leave the house. The only people I’ll keep in touch with are hopefully my cousins, and my grandmother. Someone please kick me if I have not moved out of the house by June 12, barring two factors:
a) I lost my job, thereby no income
b) A death in the family.
Leo. you don’t count. Unless you want to help pay rent. ^_^
Edited to change the date tp 31 August, because after counting, 12 June is too new. Thank you for your time and support. ^_^

So I got a starting date today, but in return I lost Verita temporarily and Mom has banned me from going out. The fact that I’m more broke than a stained glass painting is sad, as it means that I myself don’t really want to go out, at least until I have more money. Sigh…

The network card of Verita (my comp) is currently out. However, I suspect that there is more to that as switching Verita on is proving to be more of a hassle than it should be. I’m taking her back to her seller tomorrow. I think I’ll back up my music just to be safe too. Will be back hopefully tomorrow.
